How far are we with a national roll of the m-tickets ? They're a good idea.

They are a terrible idea, for many, many reasons, which I really don't have the effort to go into now - maybe later! Virgin withdrew Mobile ticketing earlier this year after they proved utterly impractical. They may face a comeback, but only in the form of an iPhone app.

Print@Home ticketing (currently only XC and Virgin) is far more sensible in terms of shoving rail travel in the right direction - but the IT implementation needs to improve.

I note that EC will allow Change of Journey plans using Print@Home - interesting.

Now there's nothing to stop this going national for all InterCity type journeys. The airlines do this. Many passengers are familiar with the benefits and technology.

The only thing stopping it is implementation of technology (and therefore cash/investment!).

And yes, a major benefit is that many passengers are already familiar with the principle and technology. It does also eliminate some of the fear about "losing" your tickets, given that you can print them at home just before your journey.

CrossCountry do M-tickets now as well. We have had briefing regarding this but i believe its only on limited routes
