I have re-discovered an old station bench back carved with the initials MS&TR (I think its a T, my Gothic lettering skills aren't great) I wonder if anyone out there can tell me which railway company it came from?

It initially was found in a basement of the old Liverpool Street Station in 1985 / 86, so could be from East Anglia, East London, or possibly from one of the Metropolitan lines, when Platform 1 and 2 were joined through to the Circle and Metrolpolitan Lines?

If you're not sure about the letter after the '&', how about the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway?

Perhaps it could be Midland, Southend and Tilbury Railway, after the Midland Railway took over the London Southend and Tilbury in 1912 (ish)???

having a look in the eastern area at the moment, the only thing close to MS&TR i could find is MSLR or here with a list through all stages of the railway's in the eastern region click

is it possible to see a picture of the carving.

Is this similar to the bench back you found? Unfortunately there appears to be no information associated with the image. Maybe this will help somebody identify the company? Bonus points for identifying the vehicle (locomotive?) behind
