As a skinflint I am planning to avoid the Arlanda Express and travel from Arlanda airport into Stockholm using bus route 583 (Arriva) to Märsta station.
This then connects to Stockholm C on the SL commuter trains, and I will be using an SL Travelcard.
There are also faster hourly regional SJ services on the same route, coming from further north.
Does anybody know if the SL Travelcard is valid on these SJ services?
The SL and SJ sites are don't seem to cover the option.
I've done the route before on SL but did not realise SJ was sometimes a faster option.

No, you cannot use an SL card on SJ trains.

But what you can do, which is much easier, is pay an 80 kr passage fee (on top of your SL card/ticket) or 135 straight fare to use the SL trains that call at Arlanda C (half-hourly).

I guess it's a matter of how important time vs.money is for you on the journey. Also of course where your actual final destination is.

Going via Märsta isn't too bad if you are not in a hurry. On the other hand if you take the Arlanda Express you should be at Centralen in the time it takes to get to Märsta.
