Lytham - Derby day return

Please could someone have at look at this fare. It is for Saturday 5 December and is for one person with YP railcard discount. It needs to be a flexible ticket, not an advance, because it has to be valid for all trains.
The off peak return is close to 30 pound, does anyone know any good splitting points especially considering it is a day return the route does not matter, via Crewe or Sheffield (or anywhere else) it doesn't matter

Splitting at Warrington and Crewe works out at £21.10
Splitting at Manchester works out at £22.80 if you want to travel via Sheffield

Splitting at Manchester and Stoke on Trent may work out slightly less but that is with a Virgin Trains Only Day Return between Manchester and Stoke.

A rough idea from downunder is a rail ticket from Lytham to Manchester then a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket?

Derbyshire Wayfarer is not available from Manchester.
Money could be saved by getting a Day Return from Lytham to New Mills Central and then a Derbyshire Wayfarer.
However, this would restrict you to having to use the local Hope Valley stopping service between Manchester and Sheffield. Also Derbyshire Wayfarer tickets are only available for purchase at stations and on buses within Derbyshire which would mean having to break the journey at New Mills Central to purchase the Wayfarer. They cannot be purchased on the train. This would significantly increase the journey time on the outward journey and can you always be 100% certain that New Mills Central Booking Office will be open on a Saturday morning?

I agree that this was a good idea. I have used a Derbyshire Wayfarer and a Day Return from New Mills Central to various destinations in the North West including Blackpool on numerous occasions. However, I am able to purchase my Wayfarer ticket at Chesterfield on my outward journey along with my onward day return from New Mills Central.

According to the Derbyshire Wayfarer leaflet, it is possible to buy the ticket by telephone from the County Council, and I'd guess they'd deliver anywhere in the country.

Even though Derbyshire Wayfarers are shown on the leaflet as not available on the train, they are in the Advantix machine and guards will sell them. The reason they are advertised as not being available on the train is because some bus companies will not accept them unless they are in the sealed pouches and guards do not carry them. If you are not planning on using the bus this won't be a problem. Alternatively you can buy a Wayfarer on the train and get the pouch from the ticket office at Sheffield.

The best I could come up with is Lytham-New Mills Central day return at 10.55 (with YP railcard)+ Derbyshire Wayfarer at 8.90.

A bit cheaper than the suggested splits, and you get buses included as well, if you need them.
