What work is going at Lymington pier station have noticed that buses are subing for rail?

Wightlink are doing work to the station i believe, not sure what exactly though.

From the Wightlink website:

Please be advised that the sailing times on the Lymington-Yarmouth route will be revised between 4 January – 29 March 2012 due to the Lymington berth improvement and habitat works that are required to be undertaken in connection with the operation of the W Class ferries.

In addition to the revised timetable a bus replacement service will also be operating between Lymington Pier and Lymington Town.

Please be advised that during the 3 month period of the berth works at Lymington (until 29 March 2012), passengers with low sports cars and low loaders freight vehicles are advised that due to the temporary berth/ramp at Lymington that this route maybe unsuitable for these vehicles at certain states of the tides. Where possible we would recommend that the Portsmouth-Fishbourne route is used as an alternative service.

Interesting that they make reference to "sports cars"! Unusual for special provision to be given to Ferrari (outside of F1 anyway )...

That's probably Wightlink finally installing the new foot passenger boarding ramps at the side?

Wonder if they'll ever be allowed to resume their half hourly service? ( I can speak from experience of many crossings that the W class make far less wash than the C class did therefore the argument that they do more environmental damage is false. )

anks for the info will see whats going on next month when I go to Bembridge for a long weekend ,like this crossing bosts are ok.

Wightlink are using the landward slipway (ie not a linkspan) during the works on the main berth. This means the ferries berth basically parallel to and outboard of the station platform.

Because the slipway is only reachable by a 'level crossing' just before the platform end, it was not considered practical to run the train service across it.

The works also involce piling in the river alongside the platform, eventually there will be two new standby berths as well as the normal linkspan berth, so all three ferries can be in Lymington together if ever necessary.
