"Lying" CIS at York.

Attached is a photo of the CIS at York claiming a TPE train is going to stop at Platform 5B at sections 6-10.

Those who know the service know it indeed comes in to Platform 5B. But it doesn't stop at sections 6-10. It can't! With the possible exception of section 10, they're on platform 5A.

The automated announcements also reflect this incorrect information.

What is the reason for this? Did the platform used to split at a different place (you'll not the sections start at 6). Is the platform intended to split at a different place in the very near future? Or is this just incorrectly specified and no one can be bothered to do anything about it.

I find sections very handy for standing in the right place but this does rely on them not being completely wrong!

I was waiting for a Scarborough service on 5B a couple of weeks ago and the zones were wrong on that occasion too. Looks as if whoever programmed the CIS has got a little confused.

Are these "zones/sections" basically a second attempt at the old Virgin Trains(?) idea of having coloured "zones" along platforms? I remember the signs appearing at Wakefield Westgate for those, but never saw any mention of them on CIS screens or heard reference to them on announcements.

Yeah. They do work okay most of the time but TPE on P5 is silly. I noticed recently it sends you down the far end of the platform. TPE don't stop there, but the issue is, due to the waiting room you actually can't see the TPE train in the platform until it leaves and passes you.

I went and alerted an LNER dispatcher when I witnessed this the first day I noticed it as she was about to dispatch it (I had noticed a reflection in P3 and run up the platform). She looked at me very quizzically and then clocked the screen and looked down the platform before saying an expletive, followed by, 'why on earth does the board say that' and ran to get the inspecting passengers.

CIS systems have never particularly liked split platforms A/B which are actually all the same island as it throws up anomalies. The coding for 5A/5B in the base data is probably incorrect and allows all sections for a platform "5".

I’ve noticed the same thing at York. For example today it said the train would stop in zones 8-10. Instead it stopped in 13-15.

I did wonder if the train would even be visible from zone 8 due to the curved platform. it’s possible someone could miss the train because of this
