My sister and her partner are travelling to Luxemburg and then using the train a couple of times in Germany. Are they better to buy single tickets each, a group ticket or any similar promotions please?

So, there are two people travelling, both 41, as follows:

Monday 26 September - Luxembourg (central train station) to Trier - no set times but early afternoon may suit.

Wednesday 28 September - Trier Hauptbahnhof to Koblenz - again times not set but hopefully quite early to get a full day in Koblenz.

Koblenz to Moselkern - day return (may or may not do this) - 28th Sept

Koblenz to Trier same day, Wednesday 28 September - don't mind if late, 9pm ish etc.

Thursday 29th Sept (afternoon) - Trier back to Luxembourg

So, in summary, I think the tickets/journeys needed are:

Luxembourg to Trier - return
Trier to Koblenz - day return
Koblenz to Moselkern - day return
(Would it be cheaper to buy Trier to Moselkern day return than 2 parts?)

What is the best way to get from Luxembourg Airport to the City Centre?

Thanks in advance.

There is a special Luxembourg fare that can be bought at CFL stations. As no long distance trains are encountered, there is no advance fare. There is a Frequenz Bus shuttle to Luxembourg Station. The line to Koblenz is very scenic. Ist upper deck on the right hand side if you can.
Enjoy!

As usual, www.Bahn.com has most of the necessary info.

For the trip to Koblenz, assuming they travel after 0900, a Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket at EUR29 will do the job, including any other public transport they want to use (not IC, but that's not relevant). BTW Moselkern is (as the name implies) in the Moselle valley so before Koblenz. But even justvto Moselkern the R-P Ticket is much cheaper

A Luxembourg Special from Trier is EUR 9.80 each but it should be possible to book through to the airport for a couple of Euros more. The info should be on the Trier public transport and/or CFL website.

Now found the VRT site and a TagesTicket DeLux will get you anywhere in the Grand Duchy for 11.80.
The Luxembourg transport site seems to offer a bus only fare of EUR.9

I worked in Luxembourg for a week when training and my hotel was in Trier. Like Dusselmartin says, there is a Luxembourg special ticket you can buy. Think it was something like 9.80 euro return. Be careful on the machines to choose a return as even a single comes back at same price. Can buy at the machines or booking office. Sit upstairs on the train on the right from Trier as you get amazing view of the Grund coming into Luxembourg and the Moselle River and lovely church at Igel.
