Whilst passing trough Luton on the way to London on Friday I noticed some work on the old viaduct and embankments to the west of the station, anyone know what is happening with them?

This might have something to do with the guided busway that is taking up the old line from Luton to Dunstable, it was starting last year

Indeed. That's what it's for. A pointless and expensive guided busway that nobody in either Dunstable or Luton wants :).

It's disgraceful really.

I know there are issues with capacity on the mainlines, but the short stretch of track between Leighton Buzzard(ish) and Luton could have been a key link in a rail service linking Manchester, Birmingham, Coventy, Luton & Gatwick Airports.

Not suggesting it would be for transferring air passengers, but would be a damned useful service to connect with for many public transport users.

Well the Marston Vale could still serve this purpose if electrified and some changes to the Bedford and Bletchley end are made.

It is indeed. I like to keep my tone civil on here so I really can't tell you how bloody enraged I am about the busway scheme. A dreadful waste of money. :(

Agree 100%.

Next time you hear a politition say that reductions in tax mean less money for schools and hospitals remind them they're talking b*******. So much money is wasted on schemes like this, and there's plenty others around the UK.
