Luton to Manchester

Hello there

Advice please, including the use of split tickets if appropriate, for Luton to Manchester return, going on Friday Nov 5th returning on Sunday 8th Nov. Current price online is £175 - I don't want to pay that!

It really depends when you are travelling on those days, I would presume leaving Luton at peak time, so here is my thought.

Luton to Manchester Rte Chesterfield is £162 Anytime Return

Luton to Leicester Rte Not London Anytime Return is £73
Leicester to Manchester Anytime Return is £55
Leicester to Manchester Off Peak Return (after 0900) is £38.50

So potentially even this simple split (most Northbound EMT trains call at Leicester) could cut your bill to £111.50. It is only valid via Leicester and changing once at Sheffield could extend your journey by 30 minutes or more over the route via London. It also gives you the option of changing at Leicester for Birmingham and then up the West Coast although it may lengthen your journey further. Spliting tickets again at Sheffield may take a couple of pounds off the open fare but restricts you to going that way.
