Luton Airport to Leicester (return)

I'd like to go from Luton Airport to Leicester on February 21 (11am) and return on February 23 (4pm).

Are there any cheaper possiblities than an off-peak return ticket for £41.70?

Is there any possibility to combine the return trip with a two hour stay in St Albans?

There is nothing obviously cheaper by train (although the fare you have quoted includes the bus between airport and station - it's £2.50 less if you don't want the bus).

As for St Albans, it would be £4 for a super offpeak day return between Luton Airport Parkway and St Albans. Coming south from Leicester, you would simply need to ensure that you are on a train that stops at Luton Airport Parkway, but it looks as though that would be the case in any event.

There is a National Express coach (route 240) between Luton Airport and Leicester: outward 1130 arrive 1300; return 1550 arrive 1720. But the online fare appears to be £39 + a £1 booking fee. So no significant saving.

Could you book the NatEx from Luton Town and hop on the local 'A' service (every 15 mins) to the town centre to avoid NatEx's Airport Premium

Acutally, I don't think it does: the £38.60 seems to rely on using a £9.80 day return between Market Harborough and Leicester, rather than the £14.90 offpeak return that would be needed (and which would push up the total to £43.70).
