Hi all,

I have got a couple of questions about travelling from Luton Airport and using KeyGo and I was hoping you could help.

1. If I have got a through advance ticket for a specific EMR service from Luton Airport to London St Pancras but my flight is delayed, can I still use that ticket for the DART shuttle to Parkway and then just buy a new ticket for the next avalible train?

2. With a 1/3 off discount Railcard linked to a KeyGo card, what would the fare be for a journey from Luton Airport Parkway to London Thameslink? Also, can KeyGo be used to pay for the DART shuttle?

Thanks so much for your help!

Single Anytime is £12.25 and Single Super-Off-Peak (weekend and bank holidays only) is £8.65

Yes, the DART service is "unreserveable" so the ticket can be used on the shuttle where you can then get a new ticket.

£8.65 weekends and bank holidays, otherwise £12.25. See Watershed's post below, as keyGo matches PAYG fares if they're cheaper.

Also, can KeyGo be used to pay for the DART shuttle?
Officially, no, but I used it shortly after opening and the barriers let me though and keyGo also never charged me for the journey and it never showed in my online journey history!

In the direction towards London, if touching in before 06:30 or after 09:30, the fare would be a maximum of £11.70. This because KeyGo charges either contactless/Oyster PAYG or paper fares, whichever is cheaper.

It may even be less than that if KeyGo applies a Railcard discount to the PAYG fare, though I'm not sure whether it does that for journeys where Oyster isn't valid.

It does, actually, which is a great point. I seem to remember @miklcct verifying this with one of his previous journeys.

It does, as I have experienced several times.

(My bolding and underlining)

In fact, EMR's specific Luton Airport Express website suggests you should be OK even if you have a flight delay - see the FAQs:

What if my flight is delayed, can I amend my train ticket?

You will need to speak with a member of our team at the train station and they will advise you on the best course of action. For anyone with an Advance rail ticket, you will be asked to provide proof of the flight delay so you can hop onto the next available service.

That's good - as in an admittedly very limited way, it provides for the Railcard discount that you'd otherwise miss out on if using contactless from those contactless-only (i.e. non-Oyster) stations... perhaps this will be mirrored on GTR routes once the next phase of Project Oval launches? (And ditto for SWR's Tap2go...?)

Though even if it does work like this, it'll only be a workaround of limited use.
