I'd suspect that any first class ALR users would be likelier to use open-access operators for the experience / for rarer track rather than all the way from London to Doncaster etc. and would prefer to get better value from the tickets with complimentary Avanti or LNER meals.

I think that anyone based in the London area would welcome the opportunity to depart for Euston or Kings Cross before 10:00, regardless of which open access operator was providing the train. You can always join an Avanti or LNER service further north.

EMR are included from St.Pancras too. The 10:00 rule also applies to Watford Jcn, Milton Keynes Central, Luton Airport Parkway, Luton, Bedford, Stevenage & Birmingham New St. Obviously some time could be made up by using one of the outer suburban operators to head north a little earlier & change onto a train just after 10am.

That's fair, especially for cases like the 05:45 Lumo from King's Cross which gets to Newcastle and Edinburgh half an hour before the first LNER service.

EMR are included but the lack of open access operation on the MML completely removes that alternative option. That's why I didn't mention it.

As well as using non-intercity services to an outer suburban station, as Thameslink to Kettering isn't an option like it or London Northwestern is to Peterborough or Rugby.
