Hi,

I'm thinking of doing an ALR in the summer next year and I'm wondering about LUL tickets when I'm travelling between terminals. I've never used LUL before

Is it possible to get LUL tickets in advance?

It is, but it is far easier and cheaper to get an Oyster Card and load it with Pay as You Go credit. If you'll just be travelling between London terminals then most of your trips will be in Zone 1 for which Oyster users pay £1.60 single versus £4.00 for a "paper" ticket.

Just go to any Underground ticket office (and also some National Rail ones) and ask for an Oyster Card (£3 deposit) and then load it with enough money for the journeys you will be undertaking. At the start and end of your journey on the Tube touch your card on the yellow reader on the ticket barriers. If you're not likely to use your card again then return it to any LU ticket office for a refund of any unused credit plus the £3 deposit.

You can also buy a PrePay Oyster card online via the TfL website and they'll post it to you. I did that when I initially got mine. You still have to pay the £3 deposit, but it was was easier knowing I had it with £10 of credit put on it. It's definitely the easier way to cross between London terminals, and as has been said, is also cheaper.

You can also have a railcard added onto it, so your daily cap (any fares above it won't be charged) is reduced by 1/3.
You still have to pay the adult rates (£1.80 for each journey), but if you're doing a few journeys it could work out less than a one day travelcard.
I also found not having to stop to get my ticket out easier as I could just touch my wallet on the reader.

If doing a return same day, and have a railcard, then it works out at only £1.85 each way (£3.70) by getting a CDR from Finsbury Pk to Clapham Jn, this has the cross-London marker and will work the barriers between any pair of LU London Terminal stations. This isn't much more than an Oyster, but it is easy to buy in advance and does not threaten to charge you loads of money if you touch in at the wrong Oyster reader, or the system accuses you of failing to touch out. I've heard several stories of people being overcharged on Oyster, so it is safer to avoid using it if possible. I do have an Oyster card but I rarely use it as I'm usually on either a Travelcard or a ticket that includes cross-London transfer.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/singlefares/6769.aspx says no. Only Disabled, HM Forces, Senior and 16-25 Railcards are eligible.
