[LUL] A Stock Farewell

Went out with Jim and Dennis yesterday. The A stock is planned to be withdrawn and replaced with the S stock. Therefore we covered the entire Metropolitan line, (Chesham, Watford, Amersham, Uxbridge, and Fast/Slow lines), plus the East London Line.

Have you only just found out. Most people would have found out like 6-10 months ago.

No, I have known for ages also, and I know they are not going for a while, but Jim was coming to London to do it so I joined him.

Isn't it a bit early for a farewell considering they'll be around for at least a couple more years?

As previously mentioned, Jim and Dennis were coming to London to do it, so I joined them...

The meet was a farewell for the A stock. At the end of the day, we all know that A stocks will be leaving. And before you say everything has its time, I know. The point of it was that others were doing a farewell A Stock meet and so did I. Now, do you have any comments about the photos or video?

Ok - well I'll be arranging a farewell Class 319 meet as they're leaving Southern in the distant future...

Wasn't really a farewell bash, more of an "enjoy them while they're still around' bash. After all, I hadn't been to any of the zones A-D stations in the last thirty odd years and wanted the line coverage anyway.

No doubt in a couple of years everyone will be A stock fans; a similar phenomenom to the 37, slammer and pig fannery of recent years which followed a couple of decades service relatively ignored by rail fans.

Anyway, it was a good day out even if I can't tell A60 from A62 stock, anyone care to enlighten me?

Who said it wasn't approaching the end of them? Its still to early for a farewell...

No way is it too early for a final farewell to something.

The East London Line closes in December - that is 4 months away. This also means the end of A stocks on the line - by your sense, we couldn't have said farewell to Shoreditch until the last week. What about people who live abroad, are interested in the Tube and couldn't come to London in the last week?

Likewise - it's like the 442s, SWT set a date of ending of 13th January. Everyone bashed the 442s on that day, it turned out they needed them for longer, and thence people bashed them for longer. Are you saying we couldn't have given them their final farewell on say 1st January??
