LU three day tickets

I was asked for one of these today on the way in to London. I'd never heard of them before, can anyone enlighten me to the T&C associated with them? I'd like to be able to sell them (that 5% commission adds up), but I'd rather know what I'm selling first.

I've googled them, but I'm sure the regulars on here can point out any potential benefits and pitfalls of them.

I think the customer ment a 3 day travelcard which got withdrawn back in January this year when Oyster PAYG was rolled out across the whole national rail network in London.

They still do a 3 Day Zone 1-2 or Zone 1-6 Travelcard don't they? Can still issue them anyway.

They didn't offer any saving though, did they? Just convenience, I think.

I did see something on avantex, and it was about £1 cheaper than three one day tickets, but I wasn't happy to sell it as I wasn't sure what it was. Of course, everybody I've asked at work has gone "huh?", I'll ask the revenue bods on Monday in Paddington.

I'm pretty sure that a few years ago, 2-day or 3-day travelcards were significantly cheaper than purchasing multiple 1-day tickets; however, they don't fit in with LU's idea of how we should use the ticketing system, so I'd presume that's why they're higher priced now.

3 Day Travelcards are still in circulation. Only customers (more often than not tourists) holding a Groundline warrant can buy them.

Groundline are a Travel Agency who sell One Day, Three Day and Seven Day Travelcards to tourists. Rather than supplying the actual ticket, they send them a Travel Warrant that has to be exchanged at a National Rail station. Ticket Offices SHOULD only issue a Three Day Travelcard on production of such a warrant.

Next question. Are all railcard discounts valid on LU travelcards? The Avantex allows us to apply them, but as I know from 1st class tickets, it doesn't necessarily mean they are valid.

Can't remember all of the railcards.. we have a £5 flat fare for railcards, off peak only, (Z16) - YP yes, Senior yes, Friends & Family yes when travelling with a child with a ticket - (if a child under 11 is with them, they can't travel free if the adult wants a discount), Disabled yes but conditions on the 2nd person.. HM Forces yes.. is that all?

Oh, Network Railcard weekends only, as M-F a £10 min fare applies.

There are some overseas ticket agencies who still have 3-day specific stock who can sell them. The stock is not being replaced.

You mean £13 min fare. Additionally an Anytime Day Travelcard is subject to a £14.80 min fare Mon-Fri

I am sure the plan is to gradually increase the minimum on a network railcard to the point where it becomes totally useless.

In the week, it's already at a level that means my wife can't actually use it for any discount on anything but a one day travelcard. Soon, I'm sure the minimum will exceed that too!

I'm pretty certain that you can get a discount on Anytime Day Travelcards. Only restrictions are £12 min before 10am and no discount on First Class (except some Advance fares)

Depends how near London you are talking about though. From places like Southampton where the offpeak fare is around £35, the min fare would have to double to make the Network card useless during the week.

If the main aim is to fill space on longer distance routes in the SE on weekdays, it would still work at a higher min fare, even if it became useless 'around London'. There's also a huge number of passengers who would still find it useful for weekends only.

Maybe a new railcard should be introduced that can be used during the week as well. I mean if your paying £26 a year for something you should be able to use it full time.

Agreed, but that's hardly a reason to keep upping the minimum. Eventually it will catch up with you too!

You do have to pay for this railcard, so it's somewhat harsh to then make it less and less useful.

They'll have to hurry up, I'll be upgrading to the Senior card in a few years...

Wasn't there a big debate about the minimum fare on Network Cards when it was brought in? As far as I can recall, some TOC'sdid want the card withdrawn completely, whereas others were happy for it to continue unchanged. The current minimum fare is a compromise that was agreed in order to keep the card.
