LU Bash

Given that I was stood up by a friend at the last minute this weekend when we planned to go to London and having already booked the hotel and Advance tickets, it was left for me to come up with my own new plan for the two days I'm gonna be down in the capital, all on my own. Well, it wasn't that difficult a decision as my originally proposed London Bash on Saturday 26th February this year didn't really happen when I fell ill at the last minute.

However this time I thought it would be interesting to see how much LU coverage I could get. I'm due into St Pancras at 1613 on 1B53, however I'm booked into Travelodge in Croydon. Assuming that check-in and settling in takes an hour and half, given the general closing time of the tube of at least 0030, I have a good 6.5 hours to kill. On Saturday I'm off south but get back into Waterloo at 1949 on 1W28 so another 4.5 hours. Then I have Sunday when I don't set off until 1F49 at 1530 from St Pancras, giving me a good couple of hours, during which time I intend to remain central if possible as I'd have a holdall with me.

Now having checked TfL's travel updates for the weekend, I'm completely gobsmacked for the amount of closures this weekend. All the ones below are closed both Saturday and Sunday:

Circle - Moorgate to Hammersmith
District - Tower Hill to Dagenham East
Hammersmith & City - King's Cross to Barking
Jubilee - Stanmore to West Hampstead
Met - Harrow to Aldgate
Northern - Camden to Charing X

Given these constraints I don't believe I have enough time to cover all the lines so I won't be doing some of the Western extremities. This would include:

Met - west of Harrow on Moor Park branch
Central - Ruislip branch
Piccadilly - Heathrow branch

Now all these closed sections obviously need to be done on Friday (today), so my plan is as follows:

King's Cross - (Northern Bank Branch) - Camden - (Northern Charing X Branch) - Morden - (Bus 201 or walk) - Morden Road/Belgrave Walk - (Tramlink) - East Croydon - (Check in then walk) - West Croydon - (LOROL) - Whitechapel - (H&C) - Barking - (District) - Upminster - (District) - Tower Hill - (Circle) - Hammersmith - (Piccadilly) - Uxbridge - (Met) - Aldgate - (Bus??) - Whitechapel - (H&C) - Hammersmith

That's as far as I got.

I have a few questions.

How easy is it to get from Stanmore to Edgware?
Stanmore to Harrow & Wealdstone?
High Barnet to Cockfosters?
Does anyone think the plan for Friday too ambitious to do before the close of service?
Any ideas to improve connections and interchange points?

Thoughts appreciated.

That should be easily doable in 6.5 hours tonight IMO - although you need to work out getting from Hammersmith back to Croydon of course!

That's good. I believe there are trains all night between East Croydon and Victoria and London Bridge? I shall utilise those I think.

Furthermore anyone got the 3-letter code for Whitechapel? I have ZWL but that was a code for the LU station. What about the LOROL station?

Still ZWL I thought? Certainly getting the same reading from NFM.

It's not as though no LOROL stations have Zxx codes; even Farringdon (which is obviously not LOROL) does.

The code for Whitechapel is WCL. London Underground has its own codes.

If you are asking what the National Rail code for Whitechapel is, then it's ZWL.

In order of your questions.

Route 142; takes about 11 Min. Alternatively Jubilee to Canons Park then 72 or 186. It's walkable in about 25 Min depending how fast you are or a few min from Canons Park.

Route 186 to Canons Park, then Jubilee line.

The 384 goes from outside both stations and is direct, but goes around an estate. Alternatively turn left out the station until you get to the roundabout where Middlesex Uni is, then get the 307. The 307 also goes direct from Oakwood station.

Also, if it helps, Wellesley Road tram stop is right outside the Travelodge in Croydon.

Have you got a list of LU codes at all please?

I do, but it's at work. For those stations with online live departure boards they can be found in the URL for the station.

From Stanmore to Edgware it's far easier to just get back on a train down to Canons Park and walk, it's only down the road. In fact they're so close they're on each others local area maps.
