I'm working on a project centred on 1955 but need some info re the Tilbury line; specifically loco workings.

I assume most workings out of Fenchurch Street used a mix of the Stanier 3-cylinder and Standard 4MT 2-6-4Ts. What would the Whitelegg 4-4-2Ts be used on at that date? Presumably the Whitelegg 0-6-2Ts were used on local freights?

Are there timetables of that era anywhere, or can anyone set out the basics of the timetable. Presumably pretty intensive in/out of Fenchurch St in the peaks ?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

There are now good timetables here, including the complete LT&S for 1955 (in the Eastern Region book)

You are correct about the locos. The 4-4-2Ts were used on oddball locals such as Upminster to Grays or Romford. Beyond Barking on the Tilbury line there was still a lot of freight, LMR 2-8-0s and Tilbury shed itself had a stud of WD 2-8-0s.

There were also some Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4Ts allocated to the LTSR depots.

Many thanks for that - very useful, especially the timetable link.

And yes there were some Fairburns as well.
