Hi all. I’m just wondering if anyone can help me out with a bit of information.
I’m aware 43047 has been repainted into Pullman blue livery as a replacement for 43055, can anyone tell me what the issue with 055 is?
Also with the staycation set not needing to be used this year, what will happen with that set and the 2 powercars?

Thanks in advance!

Staycation set power car 43059 is at Eastleigh and has been seen in the process of being repainted. It would seem likely that next year there will be two Pullman sets formed up, with six power cars in the pool to operate them.

055 Had a turbo fault on the Kyle of Lochalsh trip (hence the white smoke coming from it) and has since been stopped for repairs.

059 is now in Blue at Eastleigh and simply branded "Pullman". I cant see the Staycation returning in it's second form, it lost a lot of money for LSL.

Didn’t one of the power cars get run into by a load of coaches being shunted?

That was also 055, but was since repaired by Neville Hill before it's Turbo Fault on the Kyle Trip. It's never been that good a Power Car, but LSL must have known what they were buying when they purchased them!

Thank you all for your replies! Was 047 intended for Pullman spare? It’s a shame LSL haven’t gone for the 43006&112 that are sat at Ely.

Regarding 047, I have no idea on that one. Though i reckon it will be an interesting few months ahead for the LSL HST fleet. They have also just moved 2 more ex FGW TRFBs down to Eastleigh Works this week (ex Porterbrook 40808 and ex FRH / GWR 40902).

As for 006 & 112, I can see why no-one has taken them yet. They were tired and in poor condition before the repaint, and that’s all they’ve had since. They were due heavy exams and were repainted solely for the purpose of that farewell tour (the PCs and the Mk3s had no determined future so it was easy for LNER to pick that set out). The other issue is that they are MTU power cars, whereas LSLs core fleet are VP185
And that’s before you reach the whole host of extra differences on the Mk3s - different 36 way jumpers for a start (FGW and EMT were the same, LNER and XCs are different), different PA systems, bogie suspension etc…

The Mk3s might be more compatible than say an IET vehicle, but there are more compatibility differences than people think.

Thanks for this info. I’d seen 2 mk3s had been took down to Eastleigh but I wasn’t sure if this was for LSL. Definitely going to be interesting to see what happens with the sets.
I think they should try get more power cars if they could, be good to see a heritage hst set!

Was 055 the one that had the random yellow coupler cover?
