37688 headed down the Newbury line today with 4 barrier vehicles, it had headed down from Crewe (I think with 2 from RTT), then 2x added at Reading (4x on RTT), overnights at Exeter Riverside, then heads to Penzance and back, then Sims Newport, then up the Marches back to Crewe

Anyone have any info on what's occurring?

Yes. Apparently I believe it's to collect x2 mk3 or possible more mark 3 coaches, ex slam doors from Penzance on Friday this week. It went through Leamington Spa with x2. 6393 6394 Porterbrook barrier vehicles earlier today. However it appears the long term mk3 slam door coaches resident since New years eve 2019 are finally on the way for scrap. Some of this ex set went around June 2020 for conversion for plug door for the extra plug door sets.
These vehicles remained up until now.
Believe they are First Rail owned and have been kept for spares. Obvious as mentioned in another thread about Castle HSTs going next year. Obviously these are no longer needed hence scrapping on Friday. However maybe worth another thread on this Lsl scrap move about LSLs entry into the scrapping moves by rail. Maybe more contracts Rail Operations Group might lose to Newport Docks Simms very shortly on scrap moves, who knows?
