Hi, all.

I was looking at this ticket (on TPE and trainline) and realised that not every railcard is entitled to a discount as published.

With a 16-25: Bus Day Single costs £1.30
With a Two Together: BDS Total £4.00, or £2.00 pp (i.e. no discount applied)

Is this done on purpose or just a negligence?

Cheers.

Whilst checking through fares to various Scottish Islands served by Calmac ferries I noticed that some routes offered a railcard discount - this was not consistent and did not apply to all railcards........

..........I suspect that railcard discounts are not applicable to certain "add ons" inc. bus links but are maybe erroneously included in the fares data base? With the Northern Irish RailSail routes Young Persons (16 - 25), Disabled & Senior Railcards are accepted but not Forces (HMF), Family (F&F), nor Two Together.

This is not to say that railcard discounted fares are technically invalid for your example. It's a bit of a muddle at times.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport bus add-on should not have any railcard discounts according to iKB (aka "The Manual").

£2 per person is the add-on fare for journeys via Liverpool Lime Street and even then it's only by bus number 500 from Liverpool to the Airport. It is not a fare on it's own.

The add-on fare from South Parkway is £1.60 and valid on "various frequent services".

Thanks, guys.

Just a few questions: How would one obtain this £1.60 bus add-on with an advance ticket? What would be the proper station code/NLC for this to be valid if connecting from South Parkway?

Thanks!

Does anybody know, if you can buy this fare from the booking office at Liverpool South Parkway if you arrive by train and present your ticket? Even without the railcard discount, it's 20p cheaper than the cash fare on the bus.

I'd have to double check if it can be used with an Advance fare, but if so a good clerk should be able to issue it on a separate coupon, issued with an origin of Liverpool South Parkway.

It might depend who is on duty at the time, but offhand I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't be (if you present your rail ticket). In any case, I imagine a guard on the train or ticket office at the origin of your journey (or on route somewhere) should be able to do it.

Went to a VT ticket office today regarding this bus add on. Apparently no fare can be found from South Pkwy to JL Airport, not even from Manchester as a through ticket on their STAR(?) system, despite both of them readily available on tpexpress.co.uk. Clerk suggested that bus add on's cannot be issued at a station, which I find quite surprising.

Are these bus add on's available online only?

I can't see the £1.60 fare on BRFares either, it only offers the £2.00 ticket from either Liverpool South Parkway, or Liverpool Lime Street.

I sometimes use this from Sheffield, (TPE Airport Adv), I notice there is a particular problem with the destination of Liverpool Airport.

Compare:

9709 - J684
(£2 BDS /£4 BDR)

to

9709 - 0997
(No Fares Available)

J684 is called "LPOOL AIRPORT BUS"
0997 is called "LIVERPL JL AIRPT"

But unusually, both share the same (CRS?) shortcode of LJL.

The ticket office must have used the 0997 destination, not J684.

This just gets more interesting...

Had an online chat with an adviser from tpexpress.co.uk. Using some internal source, he specifically pointed out that no discounts are applied to Rail-Air bus links. I thought RailAir was the service between Reading and Heathrow!

When asked about this source, he referred me to this http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/noindex/70750.aspx#E4CAC

On Rail-Air Coach Link services.

He also mentioned that while the 2TR is not entitled for discount, the YNG railcard is.

The extra 70p is absolutely not an issue for me. It just seems there are a lot of ticketing anomalies within our fare structure, let alone the complexity of it and the varying degree of staff knowledge.
