Lowther viaduct just south of Penrith is currently only able to have one train over it, at line speed in either direction. If 2 approach at the same time, one signal will be held on one side until the other one has crossed. Does anyone know the extent of the structural problems causing this? If it’s severe enough to only allow one train over at a time, it’s surprising that line speed is authorised.
