Another thread on here prompted me to look up fares for Yarmouth to Lowestoft.
Now easement number 1 in the routeing guide states that;
Journeys from stations on the Great Yarmouth-Norwich line via Acle to
stations on the Norwich-Lowestoft line may go via Norwich. This easement
applies in both directions.
But National Rail Enquiries fails to take this easement into account, so a large number of the possible journeys come back priced at £14.00 for a single journey in either direction via Norwich (or £13.80 via Brundall), that being the cost of a single Lowestoft - Norwich (£7) plus a single Norwich - Yarmouth (£7)
If you picked your travel times in a certain way, for example, outward from Lowestoft on the 17.48, and Returning from Great Yarmouth on the 21.17 you could end up paying £28.00 for a return journey via Norwich in both directions that should cost only £10.90 for an Anytime Return, as there are no return tickets available routed via Norwich.
What makes this even worse is that there is a Wherry Line Ranger available, which covers unlimited travel on these routes after 08:45 at a cost of only £9, so the only price available for that journey from NREQ is inflated by 300%.
Now I'm sure most people don't ever end up paying anything like that, and it's a slightly odd journey to be undertaking by rail anyway, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people took a quick glimpse at the fares online and thought 'sod this for a game of soldiers' aren't the railways expensive, when there's actually a pretty reasonable fare available.
So who can this issue be reported to, and will they take action? Should the Wherry Lines rover be priced on NREQ, and are there many other similar examples of overpriced journeys on NREQ?
