Given track relaying with concrete sleepers and welded rail, is there any scope for speeding up the DMUs? I'm assuming anything loco hauled is limited at bridges and generally lower speed limits. Very interested to see what is being planned to increase services to Fort William, when the new normal is over!

I think the biggest issues affecting speeds are gradients and curves, but it'll be interesting to see what something light and flexible like the FLIRT would make of those.

You don’t need concrete sleepers and CWR to increase the speed above what the WHL is now.
