Loud/quiet intercoms

Noticeably, XC voyager intercoms have almost always been deafening loud (or high pitch, to the point my ears hurt from them, especially when sittting near the speaker.

On the contrary, GWR seems to suffer from the intercom being too quiet (158s or 16xs), barely able to hear the guard.
Surely this must be a safety issue, if for example an evacuation need to occur?


Some guards on SWR also seem to speak too loud on the intercom

I had this (possibly faulty) PA system a few months back on a GWR where they changed our service from a stopper (from Bristol) to go non stop to Cardiff because of extreme overcrowding, (Due to major delays that day and Lana Del Rey’s concert) where most people couldn’t hear the announcement that happened a few minutes before departure meaning a fair few heading to Filton were forced to Cardiff and back. Including an alone young teen( around 13) girl. This if definitely some sort of safety concern especially if an emergency happened. After reporting this to GWR, I was basically told that it’s not their problem. Hopefully they sort this before something bad happens.
