Ideally, I would like them to put via points in as well. Via points are not just good for locals who don't use certain buses but for tourists too. That said, I'd prefer them to have the dual screen like

The problem I find with this is that the Via points are too small to read until the bus is right in front of you. Even if they weren't, I would expect the majority of people will be using either the TfE Journey Planner or Google Maps, so all they need then is the route number and direction (shown by final destination).
That said, I do think special emphasis should be made if a bus is not going to be stopping at all the usual stops for a route, eg if it's
running part route, limited stop or is diverted (this information shown in large text with the coloured background, if still possible). Similarly I think if the bus is going via a place of importance, this should be emphasized as well, eg via a hospital or park & ride (up to a maximum of one place, in large text).
Also if a route serves/doesn't serve a particular place depending on time of day, this should be shown with the route number (eg the 300 and 400 only serve
RBS Gogarburn during the day(?), so for the 400 during the day it might say "400R | Fort Kinnard | via Royal Infirmary", and at other times "400 | Fort Kinnard | via Royal Infirmary". Using the route 22 from the photo as another example, this doesn't go via any hospitals or P&Rs etc, serves all stops and the route is the same all day and all week so this might be just "22 | Gyle Centre".
