Hello,
I have just seen 221114 [VT] on the East Lancs line at Lostock Hall. Can anyone tell me why this was here? My freind seems to think that it is running this:http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O06334/2017/06/20/advanced as it doesn't take the 20mins from Preston to Euxton Jn.

Certainly seems very strange that it would be there.. hmm.. but it is a very odd and irregular working. Not something you see unless there's diverts via the S&C normally!

Without knowing the exact movements possible I presume it reversed just after Lostock Hall (LOH) station onto the line towards Farington Jn. I can't see how else it could have gone past (LOH) yet still gone from PRE to Euxton Jn in 19 minutes.

Somewhat surprised it turned in such a short time. Never mind, I didn't notice it went from 3L to 16L. Don't suppose you know how it got turned in the first place?

The only explanation I can think of is if it ended up facing the wrong way (with Standard Class facing London) on a diverted route to or from Birmingham.

Another possibility may be is that it may have been sent from Glasgow Central/Polmadie Depot to Edinburgh (or vice versa).

EDIT: Tracking backwards through the RTT website, the train started out as 5J21 05:40 Barton under Needwood depot http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P52155/2017/06/19/advanced Monday morning.

This went to Shrewsbury, then London, then Shrewsbury (perhaps the rear portion detached at Birmingham NS Platform 4 to form the 12:30 EUS), then various runs to and from Chester with the final one continuing to Holyhead to stable overnight. Today, it starts from Holyhead at 05:51 to EUS, then various runs to and from Chester, then the 16:33 EUS - Blackpool.

There do not appear to be any diversions from the normal routes, so must have been an errant Voyager that was facing the wrong way round.

Trust puts the delay down to train fault, so the earlier guesses at one cab having a defect seems very likely to be the case.
