Lost Property at Waterloo 1970

Can anyone help with a bit of detail for a story I am writing for a group I belong to.

I am wondering when the current lost property office at Waterloo Station opened in where it is now. And how did the lost property get to the office from the trains or stations? Did the guards take it down or was there another way of collecting it up? Actually just for curiosity how does that happen now? The story will be set in the 1970s

Lost Property was in the block between platforms 15 and 16 (as was, now 17 and 18) behind the tube escalators from the 1920s and served the whole of the Southern.

Can't tell you about the process though.

The 1961 film "Terminus" shows lost goods being stored somewhere underneath the station and being moved to and from the Lost Property Office by lift and trolley.
