I've lost a physical disabled Railcard, and travelling too soon to get a replacement. I've got the number and a photo, but know I should have the physical card. Are lner likely to let me travel on a disabled Railcard ticket, or not? And what might they charge me, if not?

LNER’s website helpfully answers this for you:
LNER said:
One of the terms and conditions of your Railcard is that you need to carry it with you at all times when travelling with a Railcard-discounted ticket. So if you don't have your Railcard with you when your ticket is inspected you will be required to pay for a new non-refundable ticket at the full non-discounted rate.

If you could not produce your Railcard at the time of travel, on the first occasion only, you may receive a full refund on any extra fare charged. To claim a refund in respect of a forgotten Railcard please contact our Customer Services team who will require evidence of the additional fare which was charged and a copy of the Railcard which was valid at the time of travel. On any subsequent occasion where you forget your Railcard, unfortunately you will not be eligible to receive a refund.

In my experience I am rarely even asked to show my DSB card.

I find staff more forgiving of a Disabled Railcard. Even if the disability is "hidden" but, obviously, there's no guarantee

Although no help in this case, that's why I prefer a digital railcard. I have my railcards on both my wife's phone and my phone

A forgotten railcard can be presented later, a lost railcard cannnot. I wouldn’t rely on the “forgotten railcard“ once a year provision, (as in post#2), if you know it’s lost.

Can you tweet the LNER team giving details of the card etc, so they can check the validity of the card, and asking if they can authorise travel without being in possession of the lost railcard?

LNER won't have access to the records. The thing with trying to travel with a photo is how does anyone know that the actual card is being used by someone else at the same time

Thanks! So I'd buy a Railcard ticket, be charged an additional full fare if someone chose not to accept the ticket (as is their right) and then claim back the full fare when I've got the cars back? I know it's not lost - just a few hundred miles away :(

Call the disabled persons Railcard helpline today and order a replacement. They can arrive rather quickly. When are you travelling?

You should not knowingly attempt to travel without a Railcard.

Though if you can get the original Railcard back (not a replacement) you could take a chance and invoke the "forgotten" procedure if caught, but there have been several posts on here where people have ended up being MG11d in this case and had a lot of hassle trying to get things sorted.

I know it's not lost - just a few hundred miles away :(

Why not get whoever has it to post it to you? That'll get it to you tomorrow if they went and did Special Delivery now.

There's an offer on Trainline at the moment for 30% discount on railcards, using the discount code ilovetrains

Maybe it would be worth buying one.

Useless here though unfortunately as you can't buy a Disabled Railcard on Trainline, and any other Railcard wouldn't technically be valid with a Disabled Railcard discounted ticket.

Oh, I didn't know that.
As I've said on this forum here a few times .. some of the folks here are 100 times cleverer than me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sadly, we're leaving the house before 8am so special delivery won't work

What sort of tickets are you travelling on?

You could ask the booking office if it is possible to excess away the Railcard discount. There are no assurances they'll be able to do this.

You could buy new tickets and see if it is possible to return to originals. In order to advise on this we'll need to know what type of tickets you hold, for what journey and which retailer you used.

This is different from the original post, which said it was lost, and thus opened the possibility that it could be simultaneously misused by the finder. So the scenario now is that it is merely forgotten (but secure), which I believe you are allowed to do once a year without a net penalty.
I can't see any Condition that says that knowing you'd forgotten your Railcard before you started the discounted journey disqualifies you from this concession.

I personally would travel without the railcard knowing that I can produce it once per year. If I could not find it I would pay for a replacement and produce this. This would be on the basis that it is simply a replacement of the railcard that was valid on the day I traveled and it is not a new railcard.

However in your case it seems that you know whether Railcard is so I would simply travel knowing that I might have to produce it later.

I agree. If you are 100% sure you will be able to have it physically in your hand within a week or so of travelling, and thus able to send it if requested to do so, then I'd say "go ahead with your current travel plans".

If you are served notice to produce evidence of it, you only have to send a picture of it; not the actual card. You said you had its number and "a photo" (of the card, not just your face?). I would have thought presenting this (if challenged) should be acceptable to an RPI, and save all parties a lot of downstream hassle. If it's not a complete photo of the card, get the current "caretaker" of it to email you one.
