I've created this thread to avoid dragging my trip report too off topic.

I'm currently looking at going to France for a couple of days (specifically Lille). I'm planning on getting a train to Dover, getting the ferry and then training it to Lille. The return journey will by plane. I've got a number of decisions and questions:

Firstly, how easy is it to get from the ferry terminal to Calais station as a foot passenger? I've read the P&O shuttle bus no longer runs, so I assume it'll be a case for a taxi?

For the return, I'm stuck between the following choices of flights:

Brussels International to London Heathrow - Brussels Airlines - £33
Charles de Gaulle to London Gatwick - Vueling Airlines - £26
Charles de Gaulle to London Luton - easyJet - £37
Charles de Gaulle to London Heathrow - Air France - £39

I've never flown with Brussels Airlines or Vueling. What would others recommend? I've flown with Air France in the past and loved them, but would like something different.

Going for the Brussels option allows me to spend one night in Lille, before spending a day on the trams / VAL, before going to Brussels for the second night. Brussels has a number of interesting looking trams.

Well, on the flights issue, I'll give my 2p -

I don't think any of those flights are operated by anything "fun" - all Airbus A319/320s, common as muck. So, I'd go on convenience and price. Those are some very low fares you're seeing!

Which airport is most convenient for you to arrive into? I'd let that guide my decision.

I did the transfer in Calais years and years ago, and it can be done in less than 10 minutes by foot, even with luggage.

Good call on the seperate thread Bit busy at the moment so not time to discuss flights bit but plenty of others will no doubt advise

Depending on your schedule, the 0725 departure CDG-LHR (AF1680) is a Dreamliner. Unlikely to be cheap at that time of the day, but you ever know.
