Is there a loop line between Romsey and Eastleigh?

There are two routes between Romsey and Eastleigh.

One is via Redbridge via Lee, routed through Southampton Central. That's double track throughout.

There is a direct Romsey to Eastleigh line via Chandlers Ford and is single line throughout with small passing loops at either end.

Is the direct single line used much?

Not by much freight, hourly SWT in each direction on the Salisbury 6 diagram.

Chandlers Ford was was closed I think in 1969, previously served by Hampshire DEMUs. That then left the single line to be served by a few DMUs each day from/to Salisbury. Didn't the Botley stone trains go via C/F and then the Botley line? Residents used to complain to BR about the noise.

On the Test Valley line, Romsey to Redbridge Junction via closed Rownhams & Nursling station, there is a #-over to enable trains to enter the Freightliner depot via the Down main at the junction, or the Down Goods line.

Chandlers Ford station has been re-built and re-opended, back in 2003.

Yes, it's quite busy now. I used to live in C/F and the campaign to re-open went on for years before re-opening.
