Evening, I seem to remember a passenger train that was either in Germany, or Eastern Europe that had the original locomotive converted for suppling electric power while another locomotive was always in the lead for pulling the train. I have been through a few different sites and have not been able to find any reference of a German locomotive being modified as such, but I do remember such a consist but cannot put my finger on the exact time or place? Anyone know of any such trains that operated in Europe in the past?

The train I am looking for was one of those deals where only the original locomotive would couple to the cars or some such and the cars also had a non standard power supply. Hence the locomotive was converted to a generator car and another locomotive of some type was the traction power. this was a train in the 50's or 60's. Sometime around that time period I think it was?
