I would say you need to start doing some proper research into companies and depots, who owns what, where do they operate. The depots are in a sticky post on this page as well as becoming a driver.

Chris you need to realise how competitive it is to become a driver. You need to do considerable research yourself and find out whats out there and what you need to do to get yourself into an employable position. You can get lots of advice if you ask the right questions but such is the competition that a question like yours will rarely go down well.

Please? Could you help? Might be good if you tried using those in a post.

No doubt you’ll then want help with the application, interview questions and answers, etc...

The lack of initiative of some people on this forum is simply staggering. Engage your brain, do some research as others have pointed out as to what the job really involves, and try and gain some of those skills in your current line of work so that you can give examples when it comes to the application process. But really, by posting a title such as this you are demonstrating straight away that you do not have the qualities to become a driver. A key part o the role is using your initiative and knowledge when things go wrong. What if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere with no power, or if you have to lay emergency of assistance protection, or perhaps have to isolate a brake? Are you going to post a message on a forum? I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but I'm afraid that is the reality.

Cannot agree any more, with a job like this there is so much freely available to anyone, and as horrible as it sounds if people can’t locate them selves to toc job sites to see then there is many thousands of others who will

The fact you've at least joined the site is a positive step, but you do need to at least familiarise yourself with the TOCs and their respective career sites.

Becoming a train driver is probably one of the biggest, most sought after professions in the country. The number of applicants for these roles is immense, and that is putting it mildly. The growing unemployment situation in this country, caused by Covid 19 is horrific and is just going to get worse I'm afraid.

All railway industry jobs now are highly sought after - from the ticket office clerk to night time carriage cleaner. I would suggest, just researching roles and maybe look at other job opportunities on the rail network, to widen your options if that's what you are interested in.
