Looking for a foot in the door

Hi all I have just left college and looking to get a foot in the door on the railways. I have applied for Colas Rail, Network Rail and so far not been successful. I'm currently learning to drive which at the moment does really help me. Can anyone give me any more advice and any leads to people that might be able to help.

It very much depends on where you are based and what type of role you're looking for on the railway.

Employers will have a recruitment section on their website and most if not all will allow you to register your interest in certain jobs and get an alert when they're looking to recruit.

It could also be worth speaking to people at your local station to see if they have any agency staff working there. Then you could always give the agency a call to see what's available through them.

Don't turn your nose up at anything - if you are young and keen and want a foot in, don't wait for that perfect job to come up, just apply. I know several drivers and fairly senior office based staff who started out as cleaners or catering staff, decent jobs in themselves and with good wages. There are loads of opportunities on the railway for folk with the right attitude. Good luck.

Hey mate , I started of working in an agency as a train dispatcher and after a couple months of patenience and hard work they offered me a job which was nice , I was applying a lot but couldn’t get anything now I work for GTR and hoping to get into driving , if you live in London or around try , express rail (berry recruitment) , fusion people - they do gateline , and try ontrak they do gateline and dispatch . Express rail and fusion people cover GTR routes so towards Cambridge to Peterborough down towards Brighton and ontrak cover southeastern routes if you need any help you can message me
