Cornwall Live are reporting an accident at Coombe Crossing near Coombe Junction.

"A train crashed into a car in Liskeard, causing services to be stopped today. The incident happened at Coombe Halt Crossing just before 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all sent to the scene. The Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service confirmed a car had collided with a slow-moving two-carriage train on the branch line."

The crossing has a phone which can be clearly seen in the photo. Is it a case of the car crashing into the train?

RAIB will reveal all in due course.

The driver of the car, from what I heard, did not phone to seek permission to use the crosser, as they are required to do.

So "Motorist drives into path of oncoming train" would be a more appropriate headline.

That does not surprise me one bit.

I was actually on the Looe line two weeks ago today with a Devon and Cornwall Rover at the same time of day this happened. I would have been a bit peeved to say the least if another level crossing numpty had messed up my itinerary!

Why can't people follow the rules?

The car driver escaped with nothing more than a bloody nose, luckily.

Unit involved was 150234.

I think the line speed here is very low!

25mph. But the driver would have been braking for Coombe station. The front of the train didn't travel much more than one coach length beyond where the crossing, so speed must have been pretty low thankfully.

RAIB didn't attend site. Everything points to the car driver not calling the signaller, so there's little need for an investigation.

Yeah 25MPH but the train would have been stationary shortly before for the guard to operate the groundframe, can't have been more than about 10MPH thankfully!
