No, it shows how far engineering and ethics have come.

Whilst you are yearning for the days when colonial slaves slaughtered Orangutans and hacked down great forests across indonesia for their white masters in their quest for hardwood to build railway coaches - many normal people now find those activities abhorent.

If the engineers, back in the early 20th century, were capable fo building powerful diesel or petrol engines that could be slung under rail coaches that would meet the performance of a steam train - they wouldn't have bothered with steam trains.

As Del Boy would have said " What a Plonker" . Where did all these "Racist" implications come from. We are talking about the WHL. What matters is quality of service and comfort for passengers. Catering used to be a major part of services, it was always a loss maker but encouraged passengers and marketed properly should result in an over all profit
When I posted this had nothing to do with your far off comments
Get back to subject and if you have wish to emphasis something of the colonial past start a separate thread then do so.

Just for the record we still buy hard wood to replace the wooden door pillars on the 150-1 , we have to buy sepia as the spoil sports wont let us purchase the original timber , Brazilian mahogany
