Is this the same with Berney Arms still, as I think that the station was at least two miles from the nearest road ?

Gainsborough Lea Road to Gainsborough Central looks to be about a mile or 7 minutes by road, but by rail you'd have to double back at Retford, which is 51 miles. And if you started your journey at any time other than a Saturday afternoon it could take a long while...

There is a track, as there is access to the pub by land, but it is an unmetalled farm track and so not classed as a road. I've now caught 2 trains from Berney Arms - it's great fun sticking your arm out to get a train to stop!

How would you get from Kings Cross to St Pancras without using the underground?
Is there a shorter route that Kings Cross > Peterborough > Leicester > St Pancras? Can you get to St Pancras via a number of jumps on suburban railways from Finsbury Park or somewhere?

To be pedantic, they are formally one station complex, and you don't have to cross any LU ticket gates to get between them.

So, as someone has said already, you'd walk!!

By heavy rail? It has already been answered, but the distance as a ratio of how you would get there by road (or by crossing a road!) compared to the rail journey is huge.

Not all that far for ECS movements - St Pancras to Carlton Rd Jct (reverse), Carlton Rd Jct to Harringay via Crouch Hill (reverse), Harringay to Kings Cross

Even shorter if you use the Eurostar / Southeastern platforms - reverse at Camden Road East Jct and Freight Terminal Jct

(former) Dudley station - Walsall. Nowadays you'd have to use: a part mothballed/ part freight line, then Snow Hill Lines followed by Smethwick Curve, through New Street, Perry Barr and Bescot Junction to get to Walsall.

By Road it's just follow the A461 through Wednesbury
