Kings Cross to Peterborough on a full Lumo replacement on a hot June Sunday afternoon was not a pleasant experience. Will definitely avoid planned engineering in the future!
As an aside, longest taxi run people have had/know of? I know a forum member who had one from Edinburgh to West Yorkshire some years ago. And I've organised taxis between the North West and London/Scotland on multiple occasions at work.
Banbury to Southampton when a freight train caught fire at Aynho Junction. Fleet of 3 Nissan Bluebirds which seriously didn't hang about. Made kick-off at The Dell by 3 minutes.
Skipton to Carlisle happens regularly during engineering work, calling at all stations except Dent. I think I read somewhere that if the last Carlisle-Leeds of the day is bustituted, it often gets to Ribblehead before the 2145 to Leeds departs, so people can jump on to that instead,
I had a RRB from St Austell to Exeter once in about 2001. When got to Exeter driver was told 'keep going to Temple Meads'...no idea how long it took. Was caused by something breaking down in Cornwall. 150ish miles. Got 165s back to Reading from Bristol which was also a bit strange in those days. Got home past midnight.
During the height of Avanti drama, I recall them putting on a replacement bus from Edinburgh to Birmingham New Street which left about 1830 and arrived in the small hours of the following morning.
