Long term future for TFW Class 153s.

After confirmation that TFW has finished the refurb of all the 153s does this mean they will be kept for the long term future instead of being scrapped/withdrawn originally thought considering the new stock arriving now? I just interested to know.

TfW purchased 8 for continued use on the Heart of Wales line which has not been well received given that much newer 170's were originally planned but are now being transferred to EMR.

Ah right ok. From what you said they will be on the Heart of Wales line then for the majority of them? Long term future it is then.

Long term future though can have many meanings. Personally, as the units are all ready 35 years old from when they were originally constructed, I would give them about 5 years on the Heart of Wales line. This gives TFW plenty of time to get the class 197, 231 and 756 units settled. Possibly, if they are still going ahead getting the issues with the class 230 units sorted out as well.

TfW initially bought 11, of which 153302/374 were for spare parts and the other nine are in service (7 fully PRM modified, 2 PRM-lite). Subsequently they have bought another four.

They are all stabled in Landore-Chrysallis Rail Swansea but they are not yet in the shed.
