It's a good effort, but Liverpool - Norwich at 5 hours 16 minutes is still significantly longer.

I seem to recall some of these workings being extended to Great Yarmouth.

And in the very early days of Table 49, there use to be a glorious Barrow to Colchester working. Was this operated by a 158?

There probably has been times recently when a 158 has found itself on a Waterloo - Exeter service, not quite in the same league as some of the routes mentioned

A 158 is booked to do the weekdays 1020 Waterloo-Exeter with a 159. It then stays in Exeter and does the 1636 Exeter-Honiton, 1707 Honiton-Exeter and 1746 Exeter-Axminster before returning empty to Salisbury depot.

The 159s are essentially modified 158s anyway, so effectively Waterloo-Exeter is a Class 158 route.

Many trains where extended to/from Yarmouth over the years. Lowestoft had a daily return 158 to Birmingham & for a short time Sheringham had one only in the Birmingham bound direction departing early morning.

It was class 156 worked after they were first introduced, I'm unsure whether the service survived long enough to be 158 worked once they took over such duties.

One of the longest routes a 158 is used is the TfW service leaving Birmingham International around 18:10 for I think Pwllheli (not sure if its the right spelling), arriving at 00:01!

They run basically 2 hourly, splitting at Machynlleth into Aberystwyth and Pwllheli portions. You have spelt Pwllheli correctly

I’ve not seen it mentioned yet but Holyhead-Cardiff must be a bit of a trek considering the circuitous route of the railway line. Do any of these services carry on beyond Cardiff?

I think there's one run to Llanelli and one to Maesteg

Only ran as a 156. When it went over to a 158 it only ran to Ipswich as 158s at the time weren't cleared through Manningtree.

At 168 miles and around 4 hours journey time, it's nothing out of the ordinary in the grand scheme of class 158 operated routes.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that.

0630 Manchester Piccadilly - Milford Haven and 1308 return are booked for a 158 on a Saturday. 233 miles each way, and timed at 6:24 southbound 6:07 northbound.

Also regularly swapped for a 150.....
