Long Eaton to Aston Villa

Hi All,

I am travelling from Long Eaton to Aston Villa FC a week on Saturday for a gig - I'm guessing it's going to be very busy getting out of brum to the venue, so I'm thinking of walking back up the line to perry barr to get back in to brum.

We are travelling the saturday and coming back the sunday.

Just looking at tickets and it is £23.70 for an off peak return from LGE to new Street. It is the same price for an off peak return to Perry Barr. I just had a few questions:

- Can we break journey in Brum on the way out and carry on to the gig after that break?
- Can we travel short to witton or aston the outbound leg?
- If we start the journey back after the gig can we stay in brum overnight and continue the journey in the morning?

Otherwise I guess I would buy separate returns from LGE to BHM - then another from BHM to perry barr.

It’s 2.6 miles from Villa Park to New Street and 1 mile from Villa Park to Perry Bar.

You won’t be the only people walking the ‘wrong way’ towards Perry Bar and I’d expect those trains to be very busy.

If it was me, I’d just walk to New Street, it’ll take about 35 mins longer than walking to Perry Bar, less when you factor in the queueing time and journey time from Perry Bar to New Street.

As long as it doesn't say you can't break your journey (which it doesn't), you can.

If it was me, I’d just walk to New Street,

I would go along with this. And as you get away from the football ground you might have a better chance of getting a bus or cab into the centre if the walk gets a bit too much.

Yeah, within 1 month on the return journey. You could do multiple overnight breaks of journey if you wished.

Walking back to New Street has become my regular route from Villa Park since attendances went over 40,000 and the service frequency on the Cross City was reduced during Covid; it has still not been restored. The queues at Aston station mean that walking is generally quicker.

If it's the normal set up for gigs the stage will be in front of the North Stand. Exit the ground through the Trinity Road Stand (the stand to the left of the stage), preferably in the corner where it meets the Holte End, turn left and walk up through Aston Park past Aston Hall. At the top go straight on from Upper Thomas Street then turn right along Victoria Road by the roundabout. Cross Victoria Road and then first left onto Upper Sutton Street. When you get to Park Lane turn left then first right on Thomas Street. Keep walking up the right side of the Expressway to Dartmouth Circus, down the pedestrian underpass and diagonally over the Expressway (looks dodgy but I've never had any bother there) then follow the left hand side of the Expressway past Aston University and the old fire station and a diagonal to the left will pick up the bottom end of Corporation Street. Follow Corporation Street to New Street.

Takes about 45 minutes at a moderately fast walk.
