London Waterloo to ... Miles

Hi all,

I hope this is the right forum to post this.

Can anyone tell me the route of the Eurostar services prior to the opening of St. Pancras please.

I know it started at Waterlook thru Vauxhall. There is a flyover before Clapham Junction, then it goes through Clapham High Street and Bromley.

I don't know the name of the flyover, or the distances involved.

Ideally I would like to know the Miles and chains (or Mile decimal) from London to Paris, at these points as well.

Waterloo.
Flyover.
Bromley.
Juntion where it joins the line to Ashford.
Ashford International.
Tunnel mouth (UK)
Tunnel Moouth (France)
Lille.
Brusselles.
Paris.

After leaving waterloo eurostar went through vauxhall then over nine elms junction and over battersea flyover and then (Someone please correct me if i'm wrong) i think it then went over factory junction and after that im not sure where it went.

If my memory spands, one part of Waterloo-Wandsworth is called linford street, the whole lot of it is 469 miles - having done it twice both ways.

Thanks guys ... I have pieced together the miles apart from one thing .... the miles/chains from Vauxhall toNine Elms Junction and then on to Linford Street Junction.

From 1994 until the opening of the first section of High Speed One (not sure of the date - 2002 maybe, until 2007 when the St Pancras section opened) Eurostar trains ran from Brixton to Folkestone on normal tracks as follows: Herne Hill, Bromley South, Orpington, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Ashford International. From 2002? High Speed One was used from Ashford International to between Swanley and St Mary Cray, with the final journey into Waterloo being via Bromley South, Herne Hill and Brixton. There were sometimes diversions in the London area.

Not sure of the exact "mileage", but according to Thomas Cook European Timetable London Waterloo to Ashford International is 88 kilometers. Other listed distances from London Waterloo are (kilometers) Calais Frethun 163; Lille Europe 264; Paris Nord 489.

Some were also routed via Catford and also sevices went via Swanley

Trains between Bromley South and Shepherds Lane Junction that are non-stop at any intermediate stations are allowed to go either route without the driver querying it. This applied to Eurostars. While nearly all were booked the direct route, if they were late it may be better go go via Catford despite it being longer and slower, rather than get stuck behind an all stopper.

So the Eurostars could go either way, as can any fast train from Victoria today.
