As platform 13 (along with 14) is "special", there is a real risk that passengers using PAYG/Contactless will either be overcharged or even refused entry unless TfL are made aware of this.

As MikeWh has contacts within TfL, perhaps he could find out? (PM sent)

There's not a lot TfL could do. I agree that it could be interesting. Hopefully the Southern staff on the ground will route Oyster/contactless users via the usual gates to platform 12.

Thanks for posting, Mike.

Now maybe I'm doing the gateline staff a dis-service here, but I doubt that this scenario has been adequately captured in the procedures.

It's one thing to say that PAYG/Contactless passengers should be directed to gateline 12 for non-GX services departing from platforms 13 or 14, but it's quite another to extend that to other non-GX services departing from their normal platforms.

Also, given the circumstances and police presence, the focus might be on simply following police instructions and minimizing delays rather than the considering the wider implications.

Anyway, it was the first thing that occurred to me when I saw the announcement, so I guess we'll see.

People arriving into Vic were not being required to tap this morning on arrival, so I would expect this is the sort of thing where TfL can auto-complete journeys:

Automatic correction of incomplete journeys
We recognise that there are times when you can't touch out as you leave a station, such as during a major sporting or entertainment event. When this happens, we'll try to complete the journey automatically.

We also know that people can sometimes forget to touch out. When this happens, we'll also attempt to complete your journey automatically for you, based on your recent journey history.
