My step dad is a driver for FGW and saw a Grey/white London Underground train sat in the central line platforms at Ealing Broadway today (5th November). The stock had the colour of the 1967 when they where introduced on the victoria line.

Can anybody shed some light on what it is and what it is doing please?

That could had been the Central Line Rail Adhesion Train (formed of 5 car 1962 Stock)

Sounds like it could be that- though it is actually in modern corporate LU livery, just with all the doors painted white to emphasise that it isn't a passenger train

It certainly couldn't be that at the moment, as it's down in Eastleigh Works in pieces, having another ex '67 Vic stock car added into it.

There's a few pictures of it down there on Carl Watsons site:

http://carlswatson.com/trains.html

The 67 Stock Motor cars in the middle of the train were added last year
Pic of 6 car AIT

the 67 DM cars in the middle of the AIT is undergoing bogie overhaul i think

As far as I know, exactly that one, as it is unique? There's also the Asset Inspection Train which has a very distinctive livery

There's two Central Line Rail Adhesion Trains
One 5 car 1962 stock on the West End
One 8 car 1962 stock on the East End

Ah, Im not sure whether it's just the one or both of them that's down in Eastleigh at the moment (havent been working in there for nearly a year now :( ).

Carl Watson / Bruce Knights Eastleigh Works Blog says this:

The LU Asset Inspection Train (AIT) has arrived on site for conversion of the two extra cars.

I think the train in the picture is the Track Recording Vehicle (TRV) and I certainly hope it isn't at Eastleigh works as it is running on the Vic Line tonight measuring the track profiles...

The Asset Inspection Train is blue and white and yellow so it is probably not this train, although I could be totally wrong.

I'm fairly sure the train in the picture isn't the Track Recording Train, as it's only 3-cars long and probably doesn't have 'Rail Adhesion Train' written on the side of it...

I've provided a link to a photograph of the Asset Inspection Train in my previous post

Does anybody know whether the 2 67 stock Cars are going to be painted all white like the rest of the train?

Lol lol lol yeah that's a good point I guess. TRV wasn't on the Central line this week either as I checked, just a Tamper and a Long Welded Rail train.

Not sure if the Rail adhesion train is published but it wasn't showing in the EN, i'm thinking that it would have to be as it would need to run on current under a possession so a bit of a mystery there.

Also that is assuming that it was the train in the picture.

Does anyone know its times?

As we are right in the middle of the leaf fall season so the next few weeks represent the most important time for the train to be in action... and for people to see it!

Also, what 'rail adhesion trains' are used on the District Line?

TIA

No rail adhesion trains are used on the District line

Only the Central & Metropolitan lines have them

Thanks Julian.

I've seen the A Stock RAT, the NR RHTT (2x locos plus liquid containers) and the green Chiltern DMU, so am now to see the 1962 stock Central Line train(s).

Then, a film will appear on my youtube channel!

btw, tonight (Mon 12th Nov 2012) I'm uplifting a film from Wembley Park showing 1983 stock, a steam train, Sarah Siddons, A stock etc from the late 1980's through to June this year.
