With the exception of a short-lived trial for ex military personnel, London Underground hasn’t recruited externally for Service Controllers since the early 2000s.

This is a two year apprenticeship with the aim of helping the successful candidates secure a position as a Service Controller on the Underground.

Must admit this does smack of desperation to fill positions. Whilst apprentices do make very good control staff if the right people are picked, normally they go on to controller after a period in the signal cabins. What’s being proposed here seems very quick.

Well don't forget what is written : " You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme. " ...

Along with shutting down various bits of the Sub Surface network there seems to be a lot wrong at Hammersmith. Back in December 2019 there was a mention in a RMT bulletin of "appalling

I've noticed recently quite a few times that a reason for delays is "train cancellations" as per the below. Is this just another way of saying that there is a reduced service due to Covid? In which case why don't they just change the timetables?

Salary is around £70k IIRC. None of the line controllers are based at Palestra, there are six control rooms for the Tube lines, plus Hammersmith for the sub-surface lines.

The current salary for Service Controller level 2 is £71,962, although as part of a recent settlement for a dispute on the Met line they will be paid higher than this. The training salary is £56,358.

Id also add that this is not a TfL role, but London Underground, so you would not be working on Crossrail for example.
