This is actually way higher than most control room roles I know. I currently work in an emergency control room in London and have moved from call handler to call coordinator but my current pay is still roughly £37k.
I was very excited to see TFL pay this amount for similar job I am already doing and hoping to get this job.

Or just worked in other roles within railway etc?

Yes I have previous experience in a control room but zero rail experience, but this is entry level with training so if you have transferable skills then you are still in with a chance.

To be honest the rail industry certainly in major control rooms pay this. Incident controllers for NWR start off at 66,000 a year so it isn’t unheard of for a controller to be earning this

Whilst I understand recruitment can be a bit slow in some transport industries I do feel as though something needs to be done to mitigate this because could it be a case of needing more bodies in to shift the applications or possibly changing how things are done.

I do understand how some roles can be in demand and so a waitlist is created but I think where some people's issues are is not knowing the start date. It could be for various reasons and what some may be worried about is by the time they do eventually get called up to the top of the list they either can't take up the offer as something else has come up or they could be in a difficult position to move. In that case one can't predict how things will go but time will tell.

I didn’t think it was hard but I get nervous so I remember at one point I did stall and was worrying that would go against me, you have to be calm but pay attention and extract the relevant information, also trying to write down quickly all the details whilst the recording was playing I found a little stressful but the test is ok. Did you find the test hard ?

I just had my AC1, felt like it went well but not completely certain. The assessor suggested my verbal recording was quick, and I don’t know if that’s because I didn’t include enough information or whether it was just efficient ‍♂️

Thanks for the info, I think mine was a bit shorter than a minute but I’m hoping it’s because I’m used to listening to crews go on a bit and summarising what they say in one sentence

May I ask how long it took them to let you know that you passed the AC1?

Sameee here, I felt a bit tensed because I was to pass as well but with what we already do, I just had to trust myself.

I think it took about a day or so and I got an email saying I passed the assessment.

Try to stay calm, listen to all of the instructions and ask questions if there’s anything you’re not sure about. I imagine the assessment would be more difficult if you’re anxious as you need to focus your mind for it.

It’s all about active listening, noting down the important information, then relaying it back in a succinct way. Don’t worry if you miss things on the first listen, just make sure you note down what you do manage to get then pay extra attention on the second listen to the bits you may have missed.

Other than that I’m not sure there’s much else I could say, as the part where you relay the information on as a voice recording is the only thing you’re assessed on and I have no idea what constitutes a pass or fail (I had mine on Friday and I imagine I’ll hear back this coming week).

Yeah they issue if mine is too long or too short will that count towards a pass or a fail

Does anyone know if the interviews will be an SBI or CBI hearing conflicting things at the moment. I know on the initially application it says SBI, friend has an interview but documents now says CBI just seeking clarity. Cheers
