I believe there had been anticipation of extending the Northern Line to Cheam, supposing this had gone ahead would it have been a direct service right through to Cheam & is it known we’re abouts in Cheam the Underground station would have been?

Post-War there was a plan to extend the Northern line south of Morden to North Cheam, not Cheam itself. A site was acquired for a surface station building at but was eventually redeveloped into the London Transport Sports Ground, having never gone ahead.

Have you tried looking at it on a map - that would probably give you your answer...!

North Cheam station (assuming the address above, but true regardless) would be straight along the A24 from Morden station. In fact, you would have to go past Morden station to get to Tooting Broadway, unless you did some strange detouring curvature. I think, therefore, it's safe to say that it would have been a direct extension from Morden.

The various plans I've seen floating about were: Morden - Morden South - Stonecot Hill (possibly) - North Cheam (either the sports ground, or the Granada Cinema which is now Wetherspoons and closer to the other shops) - Ewell (somewhere around Castle Parade, perhaps where the Shurgard Self Storage currently located). I've never seen a concrete plan for if/how to get beyond that to Epsom. I've also got no idea how much of this was "official" pre-War plans, or how much of this is just various decades of crayonista.

TfL won't even consider the extension because apparently it would cause overcrowding on the Northern line. Personally though, given the fleets of people living near various Sutton Loop stations that take buses to Morden (particularly the 93 and 80 buses), I think you'd end up serving the exact same number of people, you would just save them a bus ride...

A new step-free entrance to the Underground station at Battersea Power Station opened today (Monday 6 October), giving Tube customers a second fully accessible entrance for accessing Northern line services. The new entrance provides quicker and more direct access to the station for those travelling to and from the riverside neighbourhood’s new pedestrianised high street, Electric Boulevard, as well as improving links for residents in the wider Battersea area.

I went to see the new entrance to the Northern line station named "Battersea Power Station" which opened on Monday.

As previously stated, it is a second entrance to the existing ticket hall - my photo shows that there are now two entrances facing different directions opposite each other. The new stairway has two escalators and a fixed staircase - which is what I was using when I took the attached photograph.

The new stairway (and adjacent lift) leads to a passageway that (so far) is only open at one end.

The open end feeds in to a pedestrian-only street called Electric Boulevard, as seen in the attached photographs. Whilst the paving looks reasonably attractive (it could have been far worse!!) I would have liked more greenery, eg: flower beds more trees and perhaps even some sort of shelter plus signage advising visitors that this is the way to reach the Power Station shopping centre. The idea being 'to draw in the punters'. This boulevard is part of the redeveloped area around the former Battersea Power station.

This area is full of glass-fronted high-rise tower blocks of flats. The tower blocks were designed somewhat attractively with many frontages facing (slightly) different directions and the whole area being curved; nevertheless my first thought was of something like expensive rabbit hutch dwellings for humans!
