London underground journey planner

Why does national rail enquiries not recognize tube stations like hounslow west forcing me to use two different websites to find a journey from gatwick airport to hounslow west underground station

Seems an oversight yet loads of tube stations are not recognized

Well that's because the underground are not part of National rail.

However its not really too much hassle is it just to look up your journey from Victoria tube to Hounslow west?

ETA Tfl journey planner now shows Gatwick airport as a start point so you can use that instead

I think national rail should show journeys to the tube as well

For some reason certain stations it will show not others

Presumbaly the tfl website is the best tube planner

The TfL Web Site will allow you to use locations outside of London.

In fact if you use TfL, Google maps directions and National Rail Enquiries, you can get different journey options between places you wish to travel. As in they don't give you the same advice.

Indeed and im not sure there is any desire to change it.

Its odd for sure, just try and journey from Norwood to Gallions reach and it allows it but doesn't even show the correct connections including the jubilee line.

Must say its very rare I use NR site for journeys - always find it better using GWR website.

The TfL journey planner allows you to plan a journey from Gatwick Airport to Hounslow West, and so does Google, so you're not forced to use two different websites.

The Traveline South East journey planner includes TfL and national rail data, so that may be the best bet for enquiries like this.

Interestingly, for this journey it offered either train to Victoria then Underground or coach to Heathrow then Piccadilly Line which both take about the same time.

As far as I'm aware, any transport systems outside National Rail (e.g. London Underground / metro / tram systems) is not part of National Rail Enquiries' remit, although it does have approximate times built in for underground interchanges between the main line termini - although it struggles to deal with this outside the Underground's hours of operation (e.g. early Sunday mornings)
