Hi guys! desperately in need of a friend right now, does anyone have any guidance of how to approach the SBI? I've failed it before and I came out of it feeling relatively confident at the time...only to be shot down. I understand how to approach a competency based interview but I just have yet to be able to crack the SBI and there isn't enough info out there, any help would be greatly appreciated
I'm a bit confused. You're obviously TfL staff already, so there's lots of info on the internal Sharepoint, why do you keep asking on a public forum?

Any scenarios that someone here could describe to you would not be valid for the train operator role as the scenarios are "role specific".

Hi zcarrey, if you dive into this forum post you will find some answers, the best advice I can give you is to really deep dive into the situation that is given to you. You’re given about 10 minutes to prepare and you need to pick apart the situation, talk about what you notice, anything you’ll be extra careful with, anything you might prioritise, who might you consult?, etc.

Thank you for giving constructive advice (unlike that Mawkie individual), I'm not really looking for the exact scenarios or anything...the likely hood of those coming up is zero. I've just done SBI before and was unsuccessful (even though I felt confident) and this has dented my confidence a bit so I'm trying to strategise on how to tackle it

@Mawkie wasn't being unconstructive - in fact I wholeheartedly agree with their advice. It appears that you are an internal candidate applying for Train operator; asking for advice on a CSA recruitment thread is therefore completely unhelpful and inappropriate, as the SBIs will be completely different.

There is ample help available on Platform/Sharepoint, and advice from your colleagues will be invaluable also. Likewise, arranging to visit a Train Crew depot, meet a Trains Manager and shadowing an Instructor Operator will provide far more benefit than an anonymous forum will. Mawkie is far better placed than me to answer T/Op-related questions, but I don't at all disagree with their advice. By all means glean some of the general advice (such as STAR), but everything else is going to be completely unhelpful for you, applying for Train operator, and anything posted for you is going to be unhelpful for external candidates applying for CSA.

you might not have felt it wasn't unconstructive, I did (a simple case of, if you don't have anything helpful to say, it's okay to keep it moving and not talk down to people). I have looked through and continue to look through sharepoint for info but thank you for that. I figured it was best to also double up. As I mentioned earlier, I wasn't interested in the exact scenarios (because as you said they would be unhelpful) but more so on tips of how to approach the SBI, particularly as both CSA/T.O are on the operational side of tfl and I'm not CSA.

Thank you so much, yeah I'm putting together an outline using that method!;)

They're on the operational side of LUL, but they're also very different roles. There is a CSA to T/Op pipeline, but there's not that much overlap between the roles.

Be sure to break down clearly every step of how you would approach the scenario explaining why you made that choice. Ensure your answers prioritise or highlight TFL Values. The details in the scenario aren't just for show, think about why it's relevant in the scenario. Good Luck!

Update for anyone awaiting onboarding/reed reference checks.

Just spoke with recruitment, and priority is being given to anyone who applied for full time positions. However, there is somewhat of a backlog of applicants from June - August, so it could take up to a couple of months to work through.

And anyone who applied for Night Tube/PM Shifts, expect there to be roughly a 6 month wait for start dates to become available.

Hi everyone,

I reached out to Reed for an update on my application, and they informed me that my checks are complete. However, they advised me to contact the person supervising my checks but didn’t provide any contact details or email for this individual.

Could you please guide me on who I should reach out to in order to get more information about my application status?

Thank you for your help!

Nope, she said the December dates were gone. They only had January available.
