With the Overground and DLR expanding (and with plans for further expansion) should the individual services get their own designation on the map? the DLR has maps at stations that show the effective "lines"- could these be designated by different colours down the middle of the teal stripes? A similar approach could be taken for the Overground (currently comprising the NLL/WLL, Watford DC, GOBLIN and ELL). If multiple Crossrails happen, they could all use Purple with a different coloured centre. A similar approach could be used with Tramlink.

There's even the potential for doing something similar to the District line- grouping the Wimbledon (Tower Hill and Edgeware Road) and Upminster (Richmond/Ealing) services into two separate lines

Of course, this is at the risk of making a full map of just TFL services look a bit of a mess!

I think LO and DLR could use line numbers to differentiate the various services, without needing to change the colours on the map.

It would probably make it even more complicated and messy than it is now - I also get the feeling they might run out of colours! I'm not entirely convinced that LO should even be on the 'tube map', it's not really regular enough in places.

I do find as a non regular user of the DLR that I can't tell whether I'll need to change on the DLR until I get there. However it doesn't help that the service patterns aren't the same in the peaks. I'm not sure of the best way of showing this on the TfL map without it getting very complicated.

The district line is due to change quite a bit over the next few years with most of the Tower Hill terminators being extended.

How can you not tell? PIDs always display where to change for excel/airport services.

And when you start at bank or tower gateway the PSA tells you where to change for either route depending where you're going, they have posters and route maps which also tell you where to change for anywhere else on the line.

To put it simpler during the day the routes are as follows

Bank- Lewisham/Woolwich arsenal
Tower gateway - Woolwich arsenal/ beckton
Stratford - canary wharf
Stratford international - Woolwich arsenal/beckton

During peak they have fixed routes to maximise capacity but its pretty straight forward.

There are a few routes which you get bonus points for getting on - Gallions reach to Lewisham, but you have to be up with the birds to get that one

Once I'm on the DLR it's fine - but if I'm on the underground wondering which DLR/LU station is best to use it's not so obvious.

Do services run Tower - Woolwich?

Just out of interest, I can't multi quote here, why have thou not planned which route to LU/DLR to use before hand?

There are some stratford-lewisham routes but they don't deviate from the iirc. And yes tog to woa is on the list. I put the / in there as they visit both during the day but not at peaks.

Though they have a new timetable launched in January so I'm not sure if last sentence is true anymore but can find out.

I don't plan every trip I make. Sometimes I don't know I'm going to make them until I'm out and about. The current situation isn't a great hardship, but the maps could perhaps be clearer.

Do you have an example? I am not aware of anything less than every 20 minutes during the daytime and early evening. Seems regular enough to me compared to some NR lines

Also bear in mind that certain LUL services are only every 20 minutes or less off peak. Woodford - Hainault and Chalfont - Amersham/Chesham off the top of my head.

Well they all go east if that helps :) though seriously at times the station you think is quicker actually isnt as the tube journey round may be slower than going further in.

Well that was my point really, if every 20 minutes is regular enough to be included on that map then some of the NR suburban lines should surely be included in the 'tube map' (I'm not talking about the London Connections map, obviously they should all be on there!)
