Just to put another nail in the coffin of the London - Wick proposal,I imagine that the Inverness crew (booking on at approx. 15.30ish) will lodge overnight at Wick (20.20 arrival) and then work the 10.40 service to Inverness the following day.I'll have that job on a regular basis!!!
On a similar theme, the crew working the train from London (Dep. Euston 09.06) get to Carlisle at 11.40 - what do they do then ? Would this be a Carlisle crew returning from overnight in London or a London crew then looking for a train back home ?
Whatever way you cut it,the cost in traincrew alone is going to be astronomical.

Are these not run by the wick traincrew? I know that due to the 4th path they recruited (IIRC 2) more traincrew.

Edinburgh to Inverclyde/ Ayrshire/ West Highlands?

Edinburgh/ Glasgow to Blackpool/ Liverpool? (Glasgow to Blackpool has been mentioned)

Edinburgh - WHL would have to be 156's (clearance issues on WHL for 158/170), travel slower than 170 across the E&G line, and there are no paths on this line anyway and would need to reverse at Queen St, so I am not sure tehre is much to be gained.

Edinburgh - Inverclyde / ayrshire / Glasgow Airport is proposed if Glasgoiw crossrail comes about ans will be pr[opular., Cross platform changes are far mpore acceptable than cross city. And commuting from Paisley / Glasgow Airport / Prestwick to Edinburgh is a big draw..

Edinburgh/Glasgow - Blackpool is considered as an alternative to Glasgow/Edinburgh-Liverpool - alternate hours.

IIRC back under ICXC, there was a Scotland - Cradiff / Swansea service.

just thought another problem about the wick service, one of the last services to wick from Inverness stables there, so where would the 180/220/whatever go? I am unsure of how many sidings or places there are for such and how long they are in length.

it would need RETB fitment and clearance tests, would the RA of a 180/220/whatever meet the lines requirements?

All the wick services (IIRC) are diagramed to spend no more than one night away from Inverness at a time.

A believe a 180 works out at RA2, it is 13.5 tonnes per axle IIRC and that's in the RA2 bracket.
